Who Remembers Doing This?

Yep! And we still do! We are so BLESSED to still have our grandparents with us, HAPPY and HEALTHY! Now our kiddos get to enjoy shelling peas with them too!

And we LOVE fresh peas. I eat them right out of the pod. 🙂

“Tip Of The Week” Cleaning Your Grill Naturally

“Tip Of The Week” Cleaning Your Grill Naturally

Happy Tuesday, Friends! This week’s “Tip Of The Week” is just in time for SUMMER! That is because it is all about GRILLIN’!  And it is  perfect for all of you heading to the beach, parks, and campsites for your upcoming vacations. This is a little trick that my husband, Patrick, has been using for years. He learned it on a training mission several years back while he was still in the Army. And we haven’t stopped using it since!

So, here it is… Simply cut an onion in half and rub it all over the racks inside of your grill. This will loosen up baked on GRIT and GRIME and will clean your grates. It’s best to heat the grill super hot first. It also reduces your food from sticking while cooking and will season the grates. Once you are finished, leave the onion inside of your grill while your food is cooking. The onion will draw in the extra heat and will help your other food from getting burned during the cooking process.

Onions have a powerful and natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Which is why they are a wonderful option to using HARSH CHEMICALS and WIRE BRUSHES. There have been several news reports in the media recently regarding accidental ingestion of wire bristles that have been left on the grill grates after cleaning and have found their way into the food placed on the grill. These bristles are small and can sometimes go unnoticed, and can cause major medical issues if ingested. This is why the onion method of cleaning your grill is one of the SAFEST OPTIONS you can use.

Liability Of The Week!

Liability Of The Week!

Hi Friends! We are going to start a new post segment called “Liability Of The Week.” During this time, we will find and post someone who has made a terrible choice in the workplace. We will then hopefully all have a good laugh, and make the decision not to repeat some of their boneheaded choices!

This week, we have a man making some repairs in an outdoor stairwell. Which, in theory, is a very good idea. BUT…it was NOT A GOOD IDEA to use a regular ladder for the occasion. Especially when it is several stories high and barely clinging to the outside edge of the walkway. The mamma in me doesn’t know if I want to give him a good butt chewing or pass out in fright!

I get nervous on a ladder with ALL 4 legs on the ground! And that is with someone holding it to make sure it does’t tip over! YIKES!

Let this man inspire you to practice safety, friends! ENJOY! 😉

DIY Laundry Detergent!

DIY Laundry Detergent!

Happy Friday, Friends! This week’s DIY project is all about that dreaded DIRTY WORD that all mothers HATE to hear…LAUNDRY!!! And boy, does our family know about dirty clothes!?!? As a family of 6, we have to wash 1-2 loads per day just to keep up. If not, our clothes pile will look like the size of MOUNT EVEREST!

pile of laundry

YIKES!!! Anybody have some climbing gear!?!?

With our family generating such a large amount of laundry everyday, you can only imagine how much we were spending in detergent. In reality, we were literally pouring money right down the drain every time we washed a load of clothes. So, we began researching alternative ways to save some money on our laundry detergent.Continue reading

One Of Our Recent Refinishes: “Brittany’s Teal Dining Set”

Hi Friends! We are SO EXCITED because we just received some pictures of a dining set that we refinished a while back for a client! We refinished the pieces of this set in sections. We started with the chairs, and when we had them completed, our client came to pick them up and then dropped off the table and bench. So, we never had the opportunity to see the finished set together. That is…

UNTIL NOW! Continue reading

DIY Hanging Jewelry Organizer

DIY Hanging Jewelry Organizer

Happy Friday, Friends! We are back with another great DIY project for y’all! And as always, it is very cost effective and time friendly. Depending upon paint drying times, it should not take more than a few hours to make. We were able to pull together our material list from scrap lumber pieces, paint, and wire left over from previous projects. But you could easily find all of these materials at your local hardware store without breaking the bank.

This design came out of my own desperate need of somewhere to organize and store my hanging earrings and necklaces. I had a very small jewelry box that I would typically cram all of my jewelry into. But after many years, it became obvious that this was no longer a working option. Every time I would go to pull out a particular piece of jewelry, I would get a crazy, tangled ball of jewelry that looked like this….Continue reading

“Tip Of The Week” How To Remove Permanent Marker From Everything

“Tip Of The Week” How To Remove Permanent Marker From Everything

Hi friends! Here’s a nice little “how-to” list for permanent marker removal. If any of you have been thinking of refinishing some of your pieces due to permanent marker damage, this list may save you some time and money!

We have not tried all of the solutions listed here, but can vouch for the rubbing alcohol method on wood. And if you do not have any rubbing alcohol on hand, hair spray works quite nicely! We have had to use this little trick first hand since we have 4 little ones.
