Pantry Swing Door And Matching Plaque

Pantry Swing Door And Matching Plaque

Hi Friends and Happy Friday! Here is a super fun refinish and custom build that we recently completed for our awesome clients, the Stein family! They are building a fabulous new home, and had a really COOL IDEA for their pantry door. They wanted a paneled, and paned swing door with a matching scrollwork plaque to hang above. And as for the finish, they wanted everything to match the gray theme that they have throughout their home, but with a really cool aged/distressed feel. The only problem was…. THEY NEEDED TO FIND A DOOR!

After months and months of searching, they finally found the PERFECT door in their friends’ backyard. Yep, you heard me right! This OLDIE BUT A GOODIE had been laying around, getting nice and weathered outdoors throughout all of the months that the Stein family had been looking for one.

Since this door had been very weathered, we needed to strip and fully clean everything first. There was lots of chipping paint that needed to go!

Once we got her all cleaned up, we began painting! The Stein’s chose to go with a lovely grey that is actually the same color that we used on their dining and barstool set refinish last year. And the color inspiration for their set all started here with this clock that they purchased and FELL IN LOVE with…

You can find this post, and more about this color inspiration HERE.

Although, once we distressed and added the glaze to the door, it came out a little darker since it had a very porous texture. The wood was very dry due to its age and effects from being weathered. But the finishes still flow well and look beautiful together which is very important as they are sharing the same space.

Next, it was time to transition this door to a swing door. With a few simple cuts and some routing, this beautiful sold wood, 2 paneled door went from TRADITIONAL to SWING in a jiffy!

And since one of the glass panes was previously broken, our clients chose to go with frosted plexi-glass panes. This is a great choice since it is being used for their pantry, and they would prefer their guests not see inside while in the kitchen. And to finish off this beautiful set, they added an antique plate and decorative glass knob to the door and matching iron scroll work to the plaque.

What would have been a TYPICAL pantry door has now been UPGRADED to a GORGEOUS FOCAL POINT in the Stein’s kitchen!
