Happy New Year We Are Looking Forward To 2016!

Happy New Year, Friends! As we enter into 2016, we cannot help but look back on the year that we are leaving behind…2015. And boy are we happy to have it come to an end in order to start afresh in 2016! Many of you may have noticed that I have not been posting as much as I normally do over the past week, but I have been spending some much needed quiet time in prayer. I do this the last week in every year in order to ask God for insight and guidance for the new year.

Looking back, I can still clearly remember the words that God gave us for 2015. At the time, we did not fully understand the ramifications of the 3 words that He had given us, but as the year progressed we slowly became fully aware of their meaning for our lives. So here are the specific words God spoke to us for 2015: Change, Transition, and Simplify. And those 3 words, my friends, have turned our world upside down.

God definitely did not waste any time in implementing the new-found words into every aspect of our lives. On January 2nd, Patrick left his full-time job (of 14 years) in order to run our business from home. We were definitely scared as this was a change that would affect our entire family, but we knew that it was where God was leading us. It was a moment that He had been preparing us for well over a year. So, we stepped out in faith and God has had His hand in every aspect of our business since.

We had also been planning a remodel of our work space since December 2014, but as our start date in February 2015 came closer, we came to the realization that we were going to have to complete the remodel for ourselves. We had 3 contractors fall through and it became very apparent that God was pushing us to take over. This was completely outside of our comfort zone since this was a task that we had no experience in. We may build furniture, build house builders we are not! So, with the guidance of Patrick’s older brother, and A LOT of Youtube videos, we completed our remodel in 6 weeks (a little longer than we initially hoped for, but it was finished nonetheless!).  And we have been enjoying our new space ever since.

In February, God also placed on our hearts the possibility of homeschooling our children. Until that point, Patrick and I both felt that homeschooling was not an option for us. To be honest, homeschooling was really completely inconceivable. Up until that year, Patrick was working a full-time job outside of our home, and we were running a home based business that had essentially become another full-time job. We were both exhausted and simply could not imagine adding another responsibility to our already very busy schedules. But God had much different plans for our family.

One night in early February. We were sitting in our living room just talking and I mentioned homeschooling. Patrick was shocked that I brought the subject up. He then proceeded to tell me that God told him a few months prior that we needed to homeschool our children. He was not exactly sure when God intended for us to start, but he had been waiting for the right time to bring it up. And out of nowhere, God had allowed me to bring up the subject that night. We both knew in that moment that we were to homeschool our children the following school year. There was never a moment of doubt or worry. We simply knew that was the exact direction we were supposed to go in. And let me tell y’all, it has been one of the best decisions that we have ever made. We could write an entire book on all of the reasons that we are loving homeschooling, so we will have to save that for another time. But we will say this, it has given us a simplicity in our lives that we never thought possible.

We enjoyed a relatively normal summer, but then August came along.  And with that, we were completely blindsided with the onset of Patrick’s health issues. Looking back, we now see some of the symptoms leading up to that point. I have even blamed myself for not recognizing them sooner, and have lived in regret, as well as  mental and emotional anguish the few months following his diagnosis. But as time has progressed, God has helped me to overcome the feelings of blame and regret, and has allowed me time to heal emotionally from a situation that was truly out of my control.

Patrick is still not 100%, but we are hopeful that his heart will grow stronger as time progresses. And we are so very thankful that God made his health condition aware to us before Patrick had a stroke, heart attack, or even worse. At the time when his health issues began, we initially thought that the vein on his leg could be repaired and was more of a cosmetic issue than anything else. Which is what we were told by 2 other doctors. But after finding out the true cause of his ruptured vein, heart failure and AFIB, we found ourselves beyond grateful to God for revealing these health issues in enough time in order to stop any more damage from occurring. We have now transitioned into a whole new way of thinking and living, and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God’s love for us is more than we could have ever imagined. A truth that I have struggled with for so many years.

Throughout 2015, we had many decisions to make regarding both our business and our personal lives. There were many changes that were having to be made, and like most, we of course do not always enjoy change. Especially when it comes in the form of difficult decisions. So many times we feel that things would be best, and much easier to handle, if they just stayed the same. But with every situation that we have faced, it has become more apparent that God has never intended for us to live a life of complacency. He wants us to embrace change.

It has also given our hearts so much peace knowing that God does not expect us to make the right decisions 100% of the time. He is fully aware that we are not perfect. And where there is imperfection, His sweet GRACE and MERCY are sure to follow. Oh how thankful we have been in 2015 for God’s grace and mercy. Without them, we would not have made it through this past year, and would not be here today to tell our story! Which at the end of the day is really His story. We have merely been his vessels in grand scheme of things. We have gone through many tough times, but are thankful that God chose to use us through them. We have had the opportunity to love and encourage others during our time of weakness, and have been able to bless others during our time of need. And at the end of the day, God gave us His strength to get through the times that we thought had no end in sight. He will do the same for all of you… if you let Him! <3

We know that 2016 will not come without its own ups and downs, but one thing that we are certain of is that we will not face this year alone. God will be with us every step of the way. If God could get us through last year in one piece, then we know that He will get us through this year. And what is even better is that we now face this new year with all of the wisdom that we learned in 2015. We will now embrace change, move with transition, and will focus on the simple, yet most important things in life. When God created us, he never intended for us to live a crazy, chaotic lifestyle. He wants us to live a life of simplicity where He alone is focused at the center of all that we do. You see, when we get caught up the our own daily hectic schedules, our focus slowly gets taken off of God and gets placed on the things of this world. And this year, we will do our very best to remain vigilent as to not allow that to happen.

After all, God would not have allowed us to go through such a strenuous year of testing in 2015 if He did not want us to learn a very valuable lesson. We are now even more excited over the words that He has given us for 2016: Restoration, Peace, and Joy. We could not be more ready to see what 2016 has in store for us and our business! When you give God control of every aspect of your life, nothing but good things will follow! 🙂
