Tip Of The Week “Don’t Be Afraid To Glaze!”

Tip Of The Week “Don’t Be Afraid To Glaze!”

Happy Tuesday, Friends! This week’s “Tip Of The Week” is all about GLAZING! And we don’t mean donuts. 😉 Here’s the truth of the matter, friends….Glazing can open up a whole new world! You can use colors that you never even thought of using before! It gives you the opportunity to have FUN, be CREATIVE, and to try NEW THINGS! Be BOLD and go for it!

Pictured above, we have the 4 colors that we used for our New Orleans Style Finish on the media cabinet that we have been working on. Can y’all BELIEVE it! As you can see, the colors that we used were pretty WILD, and look nothing like our completed finish. But the trick is, ALWAYS USE BRIGHT COLORS when adding a DARK glaze! That is the KEY! This is because it will darken once the glaze has been applied over it.

We have provided some INSTRUCTIONAL PICTURES and TIPS below if you would like to try your hand at glazing!Continue reading

“Tip Of The Week” Cleaning Your Grill Naturally

“Tip Of The Week” Cleaning Your Grill Naturally

Happy Tuesday, Friends! This week’s “Tip Of The Week” is just in time for SUMMER! That is because it is all about GRILLIN’!  And it is  perfect for all of you heading to the beach, parks, and campsites for your upcoming vacations. This is a little trick that my husband, Patrick, has been using for years. He learned it on a training mission several years back while he was still in the Army. And we haven’t stopped using it since!

So, here it is… Simply cut an onion in half and rub it all over the racks inside of your grill. This will loosen up baked on GRIT and GRIME and will clean your grates. It’s best to heat the grill super hot first. It also reduces your food from sticking while cooking and will season the grates. Once you are finished, leave the onion inside of your grill while your food is cooking. The onion will draw in the extra heat and will help your other food from getting burned during the cooking process.

Onions have a powerful and natural antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Which is why they are a wonderful option to using HARSH CHEMICALS and WIRE BRUSHES. There have been several news reports in the media recently regarding accidental ingestion of wire bristles that have been left on the grill grates after cleaning and have found their way into the food placed on the grill. These bristles are small and can sometimes go unnoticed, and can cause major medical issues if ingested. This is why the onion method of cleaning your grill is one of the SAFEST OPTIONS you can use.

If you need to stop in the middle of a painting project, or have to finish up on your project the next day, this is a wonderful trick that can save you lots of time! Instead of rising out your paint brush after every use, you can simply slip your paintbrush into a ziplock bag and place it in your freezer overnight! This will keep the paint your brush brush moist for several days. Your refrigerator will work too if you’re coming back to work on the project the next day!Continue reading

“Tip Of The Week” How To Remove Permanent Marker From Everything

Hi friends! Here’s a nice little “how-to” list for permanent marker removal. If any of you have been thinking of refinishing some of your pieces due to permanent marker damage, this list may save you some time and money!

We have not tried all of the solutions listed here, but can vouch for the rubbing alcohol method on wood. And if you do not have any rubbing alcohol on hand, hair spray works quite nicely! We have had to use this little trick first hand since we have 4 little ones.

Tip Of The Week! “Easy PVC Organization For Tools”

Tip Of The Week! “Easy PVC Organization For Tools”

Alrighty, Friends! Here is our tip of the week: “Easy PVC Organization for Tools!” If y’all are anything like us, tools can be difficult to keep organized. If they do not have a “specific” place to go, they typically end up getting thrown into our shed. Before we know it, we have one big disorganized mess! And the Spring and Summer months seem to be our biggest challenge when it comes to keep our shed clean. Well, that is all about to change!

We found an amazing way to keep all of our tools organized and in their proper places. Simply cut small portions of PVC pipe and secure them to your wall. Then attach a name tag on the front of each one! Now you have a place for each tool, which helps to keep your shed safe and clean! And it can save you money in the long run, too! With all of your tools in their proper place, you will know exactly where they are at all times! This will eliminate the need to head out to the hardware store to pick up another replacement tool up because you cannot find your original.

Tip of the Week! Tricks to Keeping the Rim of Your Paint Can Clean!

Tip of the Week! Tricks to Keeping the Rim of Your Paint Can Clean!

Hi Friends! Anyone who has ever painted knows the struggles of dealing with a messy paint can. And we all know once paint gets collected and dried along the rim, there is NO WAY that the can will ever properly seal again! Paint can quickly collect along the inside rim due to wiping off of the excess paint from your brush along the edges of the can. This can cause a thick, gunky mess. Over time, this will also create an issue with proper sealing of the lid and can cause the remainder of the paint inside of the can to dry out and become old. We have provided some GREAT TIPS below to help stop this issue before it even starts! Continue reading
