DIY Bee Trap

DIY Bee Trap

Hi Friends! This week’s DIY project is wonderful for the Spring and Summer months. If y’all are anything like us, we have a HUGE problem with carpenter bees. Those little stinkers have drilled holes all over the outside of our shed. And as aggravating as they are, they are even more harmful to your outdoor wooden structures!

You see, when carpenter bees drill their holes, they may only appear to be an inch or two deep, but it rarely ends there. The carpenter bee will turn 90 degrees and bore a channel from 6 inches to as long as 4 feet. Over time, this can cause weak areas in your lumber, and can become very unsafe.  It is not uncommon to find several pairs of carpenter bees nesting in one structure.  They frequently nest near each other and often in the same area year after year, causing extensive damage.  So, you may find old holes near newer ones.Continue reading

The Stein’s Grey Dining and Barstool Set Are Finished!

stein set

Happy Tuesday, Friends! For all of you who have been following our updates on the Stein’s Grey Inspiration set, IT IS OFFICIALLY COMPLETE! (For a look back on our journey, click: here, here, and here) And boy is it GORGEOUS! This was our first time using this particular color combination, and we could not be more pleased with the results.

They wanted to go with a two-tone finish. So, we used Sherwin Williams Ovation Latex Paint in “Krypton” on all of the bases, with a Minwax Satin Polyurethane finish. And for the tops, we used Rustoleum Carrington Stain with a Minwax Semi-Gloss Polyurethane finish. And here are some before and after pictures of each piece…Continue reading

DIY Laundry Detergent!

DIY Laundry Detergent!

Happy Friday, Friends! This week’s DIY project is all about that dreaded DIRTY WORD that all mothers HATE to hear…LAUNDRY!!! And boy, does our family know about dirty clothes!?!? As a family of 6, we have to wash 1-2 loads per day just to keep up. If not, our clothes pile will look like the size of MOUNT EVEREST!

pile of laundry

YIKES!!! Anybody have some climbing gear!?!?

With our family generating such a large amount of laundry everyday, you can only imagine how much we were spending in detergent. In reality, we were literally pouring money right down the drain every time we washed a load of clothes. So, we began researching alternative ways to save some money on our laundry detergent.Continue reading

DIY Hanging Jewelry Organizer

DIY Hanging Jewelry Organizer

Happy Friday, Friends! We are back with another great DIY project for y’all! And as always, it is very cost effective and time friendly. Depending upon paint drying times, it should not take more than a few hours to make. We were able to pull together our material list from scrap lumber pieces, paint, and wire left over from previous projects. But you could easily find all of these materials at your local hardware store without breaking the bank.

This design came out of my own desperate need of somewhere to organize and store my hanging earrings and necklaces. I had a very small jewelry box that I would typically cram all of my jewelry into. But after many years, it became obvious that this was no longer a working option. Every time I would go to pull out a particular piece of jewelry, I would get a crazy, tangled ball of jewelry that looked like this….Continue reading

Painting…Painting…Painting!

Painting…Painting…Painting!

Now that our final coat of stain has finished drying on our chairs, we are ready to PAINT them! These 4 dining chairs and 4 barstools are going to be two-tone. They go together with a matching dining table and bench set that we are also working on.

We will be using the elegant grey that we told y’all about the other day. (The inspiration color on the clock) The paint color is called Krypton…and we LOVE it! We can’t wait to see our finished product, and will be sure to post some pictures once we have everything completed.

New Color Inspiration…..GREY!

New Color Inspiration…..GREY!

We are currently working on a very large order for a client, and we LOVE the color that they chose! They brought us this gorgeous clock for the inspiration for their refinish. Now, it looks a little blue in the picture… but in person, it is a very elegant light grey. What we love most about using this shade of grey is that it has a calming effect and will not overpower the space that it is in. This is also a neutral color and can be paired with many other colors without clashing.

We chose to go with Sherwin Williams Ovation Latex Flat Paint. The color that we are using is called Krypton!

We are currently working on stripping, sanding, and cleaning all of their pieces, and cannot wait to start staining and painting everything! We will post our finish product as soon as we have everything completed! So…STAY TUNED!

Well friends, with the help of our new project, your dirty floor troubles could come to an end today!Continue reading
